1950s ivory strapless dress (was £265)
£135.00
This is a very beautiful dress from the late 1950s possibly early 60s.
It is made from what I believe is an acetate satin, which is quite heavy in texture.
It has a boned corset bodice, full gathered skirt with sewn-in net petticoat.
There are stunning glass pearls decorating the top of the front and back of the bodice which become smaller towards the waist, with a sweetheart neckline that is very elegant!
It is what they call 'Ballerina' length, which just skims mid-shin on me. The skirt has a lot of movement but is not too full.
The length is perfect for dancing and no need to worry about getting mud on your dress if you have a 'British summer' wedding!
It has an early nylon zip at the back with hook and eyes, and popper fastening to make it a little more secure. Straps or a halter neck could easily be added if concerned about it slipping.
On me it stayed up perfectly.
Condition is good, the only fault seems to be in certain lights it is whiter in places within the folds of the skirt where it has aged, it is hardly noticeable, but best seen in photo no.3
It looks to be home made due to some hand stitching around the zip and pearls.
All in all, a very cute and flattering dress that is perfect for a party/ball or wedding!
